Hi! I'm Rachel, an artist living in Baltimore.
I've loved art all my life, from drawing and painting, to cross stitching and printmaking. While in college, I had the chance to experience and create a wide range of art, and I was always drawn to the fun and the weird.
After years of working as a graphic designer, and then taking a break to become a parent, I started femmepossum in 2022 as a type of artistic activism - creating designs to benefit human rights organizations, and so far I've had the pleasure of donating thousands of dollars.
But this venture has bloomed into not only helping others, but myself as well. Creating again after time off reminded me how much I love it, and it has ended up bringing me so much joy and a renewed sense of purpose. Designing and illustrating what I love is amazing, and its amazing to see other people love it too. I want people to see my work and think "whoa, that is fucking wild. I love it!"
Organizations I Donate To
Many of my products have a portions of the proceeds going to different organizations. Why? Because wanting to change things for the better inspired the creation of femmepossum from the start!
This is who I currently donate to:
Baltimore Abortion Fund
Everyone has a right to bodily autonomy. What someone chooses to do with their body is obviously very personal, and should not have involvement from anyone outside of who's body is it. Not your body, not your decision.
The Baltimore Abortion Fund is a community-centered nonprofit that provides financial assistance and logistical support to Maryland residents and those who are increasing forced to travel for care.
The Trevor Project
Everyone has a right to be who they are, and to be treated equally. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. The LGBTQ community faces discrimination daily, and young people often struggle to find hope.
The Trevor project provides resources for this community - whether its crisis counseling, information on sexual orientation and gender identity, or creating connections. Simple put, their mission is to "end suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer
& questioning young people", and their vision is "A world where all LGBTQ young
people see a bright future
for themselves."
ACLU
The world is a scary place. Especially in this country, especially now. Things feels like they're moving backwards at an alarming rate, and who knows when it will stop.
The American Civil Liberties Union works to defend the rights of Americans, ALL Americans. They work "in the courts, legislatures, and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to all people in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States."
